Mandal Tours - Cultural tourism in Mongolia
Targeted to the inquiring traveller, our exclusive tours offer an in-depth look into Mongolia's society and culture, interpreted by leading Mongolian and international experts. Each tour focuses on a specific theme—such as the heritage of Central Asia's nomadic civilizations, or Mongolia's sacred sites and traditions—and includes travel to both well-known sites and areas that are typically neglected by tourists.
Our "study tour" model is distinguished by its focus on cross-cultural encounters. Tourists do not simply travel through scenic cultural landscapes, but interact with them, through workshops and mediated encounters with local nomads, monks, artists, scholars and the like. Each such encounter is planned with the active participation of the local communities and individuals involved, with whom tour revenues are shared.
A majority of proceeds from tours organized by Mandal remain in Mongolia, with net profits being dedicated to local projects to restore and promote the cultural heritage.

- Throughout your visit, you will be given the opportunity to meet leading Mongolian experts from a variety of fields—from history and religion to business and economics, from folk arts and architecture to nomadic pastoralism.
- People are a fundamental part of our tours. We do not view local people simply as features of a the cultural landscape, but as essential partners in promoting Mongolia's authentic cultural heritage. Nomadic herders, Buddhist monks, business people and others are directly involved in presenting Mongolia to our tour participants, in a manner that honours their rich knowledge and distinctive lifestyle.
- Each tour is accompanied by an international guide and local interpreters, all of whom are fluent in English and Mongolian and are experts in Mongolian history and culture.
- Each tour includes travel to both well-known sites and areas that are typically neglected by tourists—giving you the chance to experience a side of Mongolia that few tourists ever see.
- Our tours are limited to a small number of participants, allowing more intimate interaction with the people you will meet.
- Local experts and organizations who partner with us in developing tour content receive a fair share of proceeds, helping to support their further activities in the cultural, scientific or artistic spheres.
- Our meals are made with natural, organic foods, including the products of Mongolia's pasture-bred livestock, organically-grown grains and vegetables, and wild herbs, nuts and berries.
- All accommodation and transportation arrangements are carefully prepared so as to ensure your comfort, without sacrificing the experience of Mongolia's authentic living conditions.
- Overall revenues from your tour will support non-profit projects to restore and promote Mongolia's cultural heritage.
